Joint Committee on Structured Practice Experience

Terms of Reference

The Joint Committee on Structured Practice Experience shall make recommendations to the Newfoundland & Labrador Pharmacy Board and the Council of the School of Pharmacy on all matters pertaining to the structured practice experience program including the placement of students, appointment and orientation of preceptors, educational materials and methods of evaluation to be used during the practice experience periods.

The committee shall advise the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board and the Council of the School of Pharmacy the names of the students who successfully complete each structured practice experience period.

  • The committee shall be a joint committee representing the Council of the School of Pharmacy, and the Newfoundland & Labrador Pharmacy Board, each having equal representation.  The chairperson of the Joint Committee will alternate every two years between the School of Pharmacy and the Board.  

  • The committee shall consist of:

    • The Director of the School of Pharmacy

    • The Secretary-Registrar of NLPB or delegate

    • The Structured Practice Experience Coordinator

    • 1 delegate from the Council of the School of Pharmacy

    • 2 registered pharmacists appointed by the NLPB

    • 2 graduates (one appointed by the School and one by NLPB)

  • Four members (two of whom shall be School of Pharmacy representatives and two of whom shall be NLPB representatives) shall constitute a quorum.

  • The chairperson shall be ex-officio member of the Council of the School unless otherwise appointed to the Council by the School.

  • NLPB representatives on the committee shall be appointed for a term of three years, from September 1st to August 31st, and may be reappointed.

  • The committee shall meet at least twice in each calendar year.

  • The committee shall report to the NLP Board on a regular basis and when requested to do so.
